Pony Baseball has changed the “Age Chart” for future seasons. This change takes effect January 2018 for Seal Beach Pony. Seal Beach Pony Baseball approved the following changes on a trial basis for the upcoming Spring 2018 season. We encourage families to play in their designated age division, but exceptions may be made for players who want to remain in the lower division they would have been registered in prior to the new age rule.
If your child was affected by the new age rule and would like to play “Down” a division, you must contact the President directly for Seal Beach Pony. Your request will immediately be discussed by the “Board” prior to a decision. In some cases the final decision will follow the Skills Assessment Day.
The option to play down also includes MUSTANG players who aged out but who would like to remain in Seal Beach for another year.
The Board’s determining factor begins with our existing knowledge of the player based on whether they previously played in the league. Their prior coaches and other coaches who may be familiar with them will be consulted.
The purpose of playing down is not because you don’t like the change in the age rules. Keep in mind no one born in April or September has complained.
The purpose is to safely develop their skills at the appropriate level. Having to skip a season of development at the lower level could have an adverse effect on certain players to the point where they simply choose not to play. Certain players will undoubtedly benefit by staying down in a division that matches their skills and maturity. We all want what is best for the player which requires that we place them in a comfortable situation and positive environment that will continue to teach them the game, foster their love of the game, and promote their social development.
The player moving ‘Down” should not be a dominant player in the lower division.
We are mostly considering players born between May and August. They will NOT be eligible for All-Stars. They are NOT eligible to pitch. If you are interested in playing down, please contact me directly.
